Most states require non-potty trained children to use swim diapers when using a public pool to help prevent E.coli. Swim diapers come in reusable and disposable options. All swim diapers are designed to hold in solids while allowing urine to flow through. If swim diapers were to hold urine, the weight could hold the child down in the water.
Disposable swim diapers range anywhere from $10-$15 for only 10 diapers. They are often made from a non-absorbent foam which is sandwiched between 2 layers of polypropylene fabric. After use, whether or not the child soiled the diaper, they are thrown away and left in landfills since they do not biodegrade. This is not only an expensive option, it is harmful for the environment.
Reusable swim diapers are very similar to cloth diapers or training pants. Most parents, even those who do not cloth diaper, go with this option for its convenience, affordability, ease, and practicality. Chlorine can destroy the laminate that makes regular cloth diaper lining waterproof, so this is not advised. Reusable swim diapers are available with different interior fabrics like organic cotton and polyester. There are several different styles of swim diapers and covers that are not only affordable ($10-$15) but are adorable!
Reusable swim diapers can be washed just like regular swim suits and can be dried on a low setting or line dried. We suggest at least 2 reusable swim diapers in case your child soils the suit while at the pool.
The Baby Grocery Store proudly carries Charlie Banana and Smart Bottoms swim diapers! Both brands can be worm over or under swim suits, and Charlie Banana can be worn as a bathing suit.
Charlie Banana has 6 adorable swim diaper patterns in small, medium, and large. They are pull on swim diapers and can even be used as training pants.
